ABOUT

OWEN BURNHAM (he/they) is a Brooklyn based photographer and visual artist creating from the investigation of movement and imagery. Born in Columbus, Ohio, their formative years were spent training in ballet and contemporary dance, serving as a foundation for their evolving interest in how motion and movement define and change our perception of the world.

With an eclectic background in mediums of art and performance (dance, acrylic, metalworking, collage), Owen’s practice ultimately embodies motion as a vehicle of connection. Whether experimenting intuitively or collaborating with a team, an opportunity to document motion is an offering to tune in to the stories, lineages, and mechanisms of community that exist in the choreographies of the present. They are privileged to currently capture portraits, processes, and performances of dance artists and arts workers in New York City and beyond.

Owen received their BFA in Dance from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 2022. Residing now in Crown Heights, Owen is currently a Coordinator at Pentacle Dance Works Inc. while continuing their artistic practice, developing their current iterative project Dancers and Long Exposures.
